23 March 2015 News

Minister Daniel Mitov held a meeting today with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Sofia Emil Zulfugar oglu Karimov. They discussed the recent official visit of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Bulgaria and expressed satisfaction with the fact that it has given a new impetus to bilateral Bulgarian-Azerbaijani economic, trade and political relations and has drawn new and wider prospects for their development.

Minister Mitov underscored the importance that Bulgaria attaches to its relations with Azerbaijan in the economic and the energy field and pointed out that the Azeri side is a strategic partner both for us and for the entire EU. In this regard, he expressed hope that the Azerbaijani side will speed up the consultations on the draft treaty on EU-Azerbaijan strategic partnership and it will be signed as soon as possible, as it will be equally beneficial for Bulgaria, the entire EU, and Azerbaijan itself.

For his part, the Azerbaijani Ambassador said that the relations with Bulgaria in all areas are of strategic importance for his country, focusing on the energy links related to the transfer of Azeri gas through Bulgaria to the entire region of Southeast and Central Europe.

The two diplomats discussed possibilities to enhance trade and economic relations between the two countries in various fields and industries. Minister Mitov expressed hope that the Bulgarian pharmaceutical companies that have recently demonstrated a growing interest in the region, will soon get a wider access to the Azerbaijani market.
