Relations between Bulgaria and Germany are based on high level of trust

Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov conferred today in Berlin with his German counterpart Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Minister Mitov is paying an official visit to Germany at Steinmeier’s invitation. They discussed a number of bilateral issues with a focus on the opportunities for more German investments in Bulgaria after the two sides officially announced the German government’s decision to resume government guarantees for German exporters and investors in Bulgaria.
"We work well with Bulgaria and enjoy close cooperation," Minister Steinmeier said after the talks. He added that he has accepted Mitov’s invitation to visit Bulgaria and will come to Sofia in March. According to him, the willingness of the Bulgarian government to reform the judicial system and step up the fight against corruption is an important sign to German investors and to Europe as a whole.
In turn, Minister Mitov assured his host that the Bulgarian authorities are determined to undertake active steps with the adoption of the judicial strategy reform to restore the rule of law. He pointed out that today’s first official meeting between the foreign ministers of Bulgaria and Germany is sending clear signals about the priority strategic importance of the relations between the two countries.
Daniel Mitov and Frank-Walter Steinmeier also focused on topical issues on the international agenda.They discussed the conflict in Ukraine, EU-Russia dialogue, and shared the view that the compliance with the Minsk agreements is the only way to de-escalation of tensions and a chance of finding a political solution to the crisis.
The top diplomats of Bulgaria and Germany agreed that in order to address the new challenges to the EU and the democratic societies, it is crucial to preserve the unity of the Union. Ministers Steinmeier and Mitov expressed condolences to the family of the first democratically elected president of Bulgaria, Zhelyo Zhelev, who passed away on Friday.
