Minister Daniel Mitov met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia

Minister Daniel Mitov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Macedonia to Sofia Blagoj Handjiski. The topics of  discussion included bilateral cooperation, as well as the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of the Republic of Macedonia.

Foreign Minister Mitov emphasized that the Republic of Macedonia can continue to count on Bulgaria’s help and expertise in the process of integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures.

Minister Mitov and Ambassador Handjiski discussed the current state of bilateral relations and the prospects for their development. They exchanged views on the possibility of a meeting between the foreign ministers of Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia, which will strengthen the political dialogue at the highest level.

Daniel Mitov and Blagoj Handjiski agreed on the need to speed up the next meeting of the expert working groups of the two foreign ministries for consultations on the Treaty of Good Neighborly Relations, Friendship and Cooperation.

Blagoj Handjiski extended greetings to Minister Daniel Mitov on behalf of his counterpart Nikola Poposki and underlined the closeness between the two neighboring countries. As an affirmation of this, he pointed out the initiative for joint celebration of common to both countries and peoples historical events, dates and personalities, such as the celebration of Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Rome and the joint initiative of BAS and MASA in 2016 to be declared by UNESCO as "St. Kliment’s year" in honor of the 1100 anniversary of the death of St. Kliment Ohridski.
