Minister Daniel Mitov participates in the 400th anniversary meeting of the Council for European Affairs

12 January 2015 News

The first discussion on the upcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2018 was held today at the Council of Ministers, with the participation of Minister Daniel Mitov. The discussion took place within the 400th anniversary meeting of the Council for European Affairs.

"This will be the biggest European challenge for the Bulgarian administration since the accession negotiations. It will take place after a 10-year membership of our country in the Union," Minister Mitov said at the meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva. The participants included  representatives of all ministries, the Presidency, the European institutions in Bulgaria, politicians and public figures associated with the EU integration process of the country.

According to Minister Mitov, Bulgaria’s Presidency is an exceptional opportunity to consolidate the country’s foreign image and reputation in the EU, and the preparation for it should be seen as an opportunity to support the implementation of key national priorities through interaction with representatives of the EU institutions and the Member States.

Foreign Minister Mitov is convinced that Bulgaria will approach the preparations for the EU Presidency with the self-confidence gained from the years of membership, as well as with the well-functioning national coordination mechanism on EU affairs, despite the number of challenges, arising from the dynamics of international and European political and economic context.
