23 December 2014 News

Bulgaria wants to show clearly where it stands and what its principles are. The government is committed  to deal with the challenges posed by the country's increased integration with the EU, said Minister Daniel Mitov at today's meeting with French Ambassador Xavier Lapeyre de Cabanes.

We are aware that the reform of the judicial system is one of these challenges and the Justice Minister is committed to that goal, Minister Mitov said. He added that the government appreciates the position of the EU Ambassadors because we are part of one community where we can talk openly with one another.

The Foreign Minister discussed with the French Ambassador Bulgaria's request to extend by another year  the period for absorption of EU funds from the previous programming period. For Bulgaria, it will be an important and much needed sign of support from the European Commission and the European partners, he commented.

In the context of recent developments in the field of energy, the quick construction of interconnectors with neighboring countries, primarily Greece and Romania, is of a significant importance for Bulgaria. That it is a key priority for us because it will allow the region to become independent from a single gas supplier, the Foreign Minister said. The Ambassador commented that these are not huge projects but rather important and easier to implement.

Daniel Mitov and Xavier Lapeyre de Cabanes exchanged views on the idea of building a gas hub in Varna. The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Bulgaria’s position regarding the South Stream project - realization in compliance with the EU rules.
