Daniel Mitov held talks with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden
19 September 2014 NewsMinister Daniel Mitov met today with Helena Pilsas Ahlin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Bulgaria, based in Stockholm. They discussed the current state of bilateral relations, as well as a number of issues on the European agenda, expressing willingness to deepen the dialogue in areas of mutual interest. Minister Mitov and Swedish Ambassador agreed that the two countries share traditionally good partnership and expressed desire to enhance trade and economic relations, as well as the tourism exchange between the two countries.
The cooperation between EU Member States, including Bulgaria and Sweden, under the new European Commission and setting clear and long-term priorities will strengthen the EU and contribute to finding a lasting solution to international conflicts, said Minister Mitov. "The creation of European energy union is a topic of utmost importance to us especially in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. We hope that with joint efforts we can build interconnectors with our partners Greece, Romania and Turkey, thus reducing energy dependence not only in Bulgaria, but in the Union as a whole," the Foreign Minister said. Ambassador Helena Pilsas Ahlin expressed support for the common energy policy and noted that to achieve this goal, Europe must speak in one voice.
Among the topics of conversation were also the situation in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East. Bulgarian Foreign Minister and Swedish Ambassador agreed that there is a need of focused foreign policy approach and a coordinated position within the Union in order to achieve lasting peace in the conflict zones.
