Libya evacuation

02 March 2011 News

The Bulgarian government has decided upon an evacuation of Bulgarian citizens from Tripoli. On a Prime Minister’s order, the state company “Technoexportstroy” has provided an aircraft with a capacity of 180 seats, which is expected to land in Tripoli on February 22 (Tuesday) around 12 pm local time.

Due to disrupted communications inside Libya, the MFA calls upon Bulgarian citizens in the area of Tripoli with the instructions, those who carry with themselves a passport, and who consider that there is no risk to their personal security,  to appear at the airport in Tripoli around 12 pm local time.  All should have with them their Bulgarian passports, whether they hold a Libyan exit visa or not.  Those who wish to be evacuated are recommended to carry water and snacks.

The MFA advises Bulgarian citizens in the region of Benghazi and the towns in the Eastern part of Libya not to leave their homes. To this moment, the airport in Benghazi remains closed, as a result of which other possibilities for evacuation are being considered.

Bulgarian citizens in Libya, who do not have a Bulgarian passport with them should contact the Embassy for further instructions on how to obtain a temporary passport, which they need to leave the country.
