Minister Nickolay Mladenov presented Bulgaria’s degree of preparation for accession to the Schengen area on a working visit to the Kingdom of Denmark. “ I am pleased that Denmark offers an accurate and well-intentioned assessment of Bulgaria’s achievements in the sphere of the fight against corruption and organized crime” said Minister Mladenov to his counterpart Lene Espersen. Minister Espersen stated that that the decision for Bulgaria’s accession should be based upon the country’s compliance with the criteria, set out in the Agreement and its accompanying documents.
The two Ministers discussed matters related to the priorities of the upcoming Danish Presidency of the EC in the first half of 2012, among which the negotiations on the new financial framework, problems associated to energy security, the process of enlargement, and the current situation in the Middle East and Afghanistan.
During the course of his visit, Minister Mladenov has also met with the Danish Minister of Justice Lars Barfoed, and with the President of the Folketing Thor Pedersen. Together with Denmark’s Foreign Minister, Minister Mladenov opened an exhibition in the National Museum on “ The Strength of Civil Society. The Fate of Bulgarian Jews”, dedicated to the rescue of Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War.
