Joint initiative by the State Cultural Institute and the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Bulgaria

On August 28 2013, the State Cultural Institute, in co-operation with the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Sofia and with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marked the International Day Against Nuclear Tests. On this occasion, an exhibition was opened entitled “Kazakhstan without nuclear weapons”, along with the screening of a documentary on this topic. The International Day Against Nuclear Tests, August 29, was designated by resolution 64/35 of the UN, initiated by Kazakhstan.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Angel Velitchkov, addressed the guests at the exhibition, highlighting Bulgaria’s position on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and its support for international efforts for the entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

In his address, the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Kazakhstan, Mr. Temirtay Izbastin thanked the Bulgarian authorities for their support for the initiative and noted the efforts by Kazakhstan to curb nuclear testing and weapons worldwide.
