Deputy Minister Hristo Dikanski Holds Meeting With Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Elmar Mammadov

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hristo Dikanski held a meeting today with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Bulgaria, Elmar Mammadov.

During the meeting, current issues in bilateral relations were discussed. The two sides reviewed the prospects for expanding cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interest, including the upward development of cooperation in the energy sector, transport and digital connectivity, trends towards strengthening and expanding trade and economic ties, innovation, information technology and opportunities to promote investment. Possible visits at high and highest level, as well as the upcoming bilateral political consultations, were also discussed.

Deputy Minister Dikanski noted that Bulgaria attaches great importance to its relations with Azerbaijan and regards the country as a priority and reliable strategic partner with which Bulgaria works jointly to achieve peace, stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus and the wider Black Sea region.

The two interlocutors shared the view that economic diplomacy should be stepped up and that the existing opportunities for developing interregional connectivity and economic cooperation between the two countries should be utilised more fully.

The Bulgarian side reaffirmed its desire and readiness to deepen the strategic partnership in the various dimensions of connectivity, with a focus on energy, transport and digital connectivity.

Both sides expressed interest in developing bilateral cooperation in other areas as well, including tourism, people-to-people contacts and facilitating contacts between the business communities.
