Deputy Minister Christo Polendakov Meets Georgian Ambassador Zurab Khamashuridze
16 June 2026 NewsDeputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Christo Polendakov held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with H.E. Zurab Khamashuridze, Ambassador of Georgia to Bulgaria.
Deputy Minister Polendakov highly commended the excellent state of bilateral relations and described Georgia as a priority and trusted partner of Bulgaria, with whom the country works closely to promote peace, security, stability and prosperity in the Black Sea region. During the meeting, he noted that Bulgaria attaches great importance to its economic relations with Georgia and expressed readiness to further deepen cooperation through connectivity projects, with a particular focus on transport, energy and digital connectivity.
During the discussion, the two sides agreed that there is considerable scope for facilitating contacts between the business communities and increasing bilateral trade, with the existing ferry links between Bulgaria and Georgia expected to play a significant role in this regard.
The two sides also agreed that the Bulgarian – Georgian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation provides an appropriate platform for further strengthening and expanding bilateral economic cooperation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Minister Polendakov reaffirmed the Republic of Bulgaria's unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
