Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova held a meeting today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria.

During their talks, the two ministers reaffirmed the high level of the ongoing dialogue between their governments, as well as their shared commitment to deepening good-neighbourly relations and fostering more pragmatic cooperation across a range of areas of mutual interest. “Bulgaria attaches great importance to maintaining stable relations with Türkiye based on good-neighbourliness, mutual respect and active dialogue,” Minister Petrova emphasised.

A broad range of issues from the bilateral, regional and international agendas were discussed during the meeting. The two top diplomats placed particular emphasis on energy, trade and economic cooperation, and regional connectivity. According to the Bulgarian Foreign Minister, these areas are of key importance for enhancing the region’s competitiveness at a time when it faces increasingly complex challenges.

“As regards energy, which remains a key area of cooperation, we reviewed natural gas supplies, cross-border interconnectivity and the diversification of energy sources,” the Bulgarian Foreign Minister stated.

The two top diplomats agreed that there remains untapped potential in economic relations between Bulgaria and Türkiye and reaffirmed their readiness to work more actively in this area. They also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in trade, investment and joint infrastructure projects.

A number of regional issues, including security in the Black Sea region and developments in the Middle East, also featured on the agenda. Velislava Petrova underlined that Bulgaria and Türkiye would continue to work together to ensure security along the external borders of the European Union.
