Deputy Foreign Minister Christo Polendakov Meets Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Elmar Mammadov
08 June 2026 NewsDeputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Christo Polendakov held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Bulgaria, Elmar Mammadov.
Christo Polendakov congratulated Ambassador Mammadov on the commencement of his diplomatic mission in Bulgaria and expressed confidence in the continued development of bilateral political dialogue and cooperation, with a particular focus on the energy sector. He further noted that Bulgaria attaches great importance to its relations with Azerbaijan. In his words, the country is a priority and reliable strategic partner with whom Bulgaria works closely to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus and the wider Black Sea region.
The two interlocutors reviewed the prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interest. Priority areas include connectivity in all its dimensions, cooperation in tourism, people-to-people contacts, and facilitating interaction between the business communities.
The development of cooperation in the energy sector, trends in strengthening and expanding trade and economic relations, energy and transport connectivity, innovation, and opportunities to promote investment were also among the topics discussed.
The two sides also expressed their mutual readiness to hold the third session of the Bulgaria – Azerbaijan Strategic Dialogue in Baku later this year.
