Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova participated in the Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), held on 3 and 4 June in Paris. The forum brings together representatives of OECD member countries, accession candidate countries, partner countries, and international institutions, including the European Commission. This year’s meeting is being held under the theme “Towards Industrial Policies for Open Markets, Growth and Prosperity”.
Minister Petrova took part in discussions during the session dedicated to enhancing regulatory frameworks for competition and competitiveness. In her remarks, Bulgaria’s top diplomat emphasised that, in an increasingly dynamic international environment, industrial policy should create conditions conducive to fostering innovation, investment and fair competition.
“Economic diplomacy is an integral part of modern foreign policy. Our task is to build a predictable business environment, support Bulgarian enterprises in accessing new markets, and encourage investment and partnerships in strategic sectors such as innovation, digital technologies and energy,” Minister Petrova stated. She added that Bulgaria has already demonstrated its ability to align successfully with the highest international standards and will continue to pursue this path consistently.
On the margins of the Ministerial Council Meeting, Bulgaria’s top diplomat held talks with Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. Minister Petrova also held a coordination meeting with Geeta Kothari, OECD Accession Coordinator, during which Bulgaria’s progress in the OECD accession process was reviewed, together with the forthcoming stages and priorities within that process.
