26 March 2026 News

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nadezhda Neynsky held a meeting with French Ambassador to Bulgaria Marie Dumoulin, where key issues on the European agenda, security and the future of EU enlargement were discussed.

During the conversation, the focus was on the need for in-depth public reforms in the EU candidate countries, so as to integrate partners, not problems. The parties discussed the imperative need for security sector reform in some candidate countries.

Our first diplomat and the French ambassador also discussed issues related to the institutional architecture of the EU, as well as the need to consistently defend agreements and consensus decisions as a guarantee of the authority and values of a united Europe.

Significant attention was paid to countering disinformation and hybrid threats, which are a particularly sensitive topic in the context of military conflicts in two adjacent regions. In this context, Minister Neynsky presented the establishment of a temporary coordination mechanism at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aimed at strengthening information resilience, especially in view of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The conversation also discussed current international security challenges, including Russia's war against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, as well as the need for coordinated European action to address their consequences.

Mutual satisfaction was expressed with the close bilateral relations and the intensive interaction between Bulgaria and France on priority topics on the European agenda.
