Bulgaria Reports Progress in the Process of Joining the United States Visa Waiver Program

Expert teams from Bulgaria and the United States held discussions on the country’s progress towards accession to the United States Visa Waiver Program. The meeting was attended by representatives of Bulgarian institutions forming part of the interinstitutional working group, led by Bulgaria’s National Coordinator for the Programme, Dimana Dramova, as well as experts from the United States Department of State and the United States Department of Homeland Security.
During the discussions, the excellent bilateral cooperation and Bulgaria’s substantial progress were noted. Key achievements include the finalisation of the necessary bilateral legal framework, the strengthening of procedures to prevent abuse, and the expansion of coordination in the areas of border security and information exchange.
Bulgaria will continue its efforts to meet all requirements for inclusion in the Programme, including the criterion of achieving a refusal rate for the issuance of United States tourist and business visas below 3%.
