Minister Neynski met today with H. Martin McDowell, acting ambassador of the United States to Bulgaria. The two discussed the difficult situation in the Middle East and Iran, with an emphasis on security guarantees for Europe in the event of an escalation and expansion of the conflict.

Minister Neynski raised the issue of waiving visas for Bulgarians who wish to visit the United States. The two sides agreed on their desire to deepen relations in the fields of technology, defense, and energy. Our participation in the Transatlantic Gas Security Meeting and, in particular, the vertical gas corridor were discussed. The Bulgarian Foreign Minister stressed the need for a derogation for Lukoil until the successful conclusion of the sale negotiations. The interest of American companies producing and supplying liquefied gas in expanding their presence and investment activities in Bulgaria was acknowledged.

Bulgaria expressed willingness to join the Pax Silica initiative in the context of cooperation in the field of high technology, artificial intelligence, and data centers. Progress on the project to build the seventh and eighth units of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant using American AP-1000 technology was also discussed.
