Bulgaria is closely monitoring the situation in Turkey, our neighbouring state and a friend. The signals received about willingness for dialogue are encouraging, and would prevent the risk of further polarization and confrontation. For us, it is important that the Republic of Turkey, as our neighbour and ally, should be a strong, prosperous, democratic and constitutional state. We believe that the actions of the Turkish government should be in line with the principles and values that the country shares as a candidate for EU membership. Bulgaria consistently supports the European choice of Turkey.
