Nadezhda Neynski Sworn In as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria

Nadezhda Neynski assumed office as Minister of Foreign Affairs during an official ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
In her first statement to the media upon taking up her duties, she emphasised that continuity and stability in Bulgaria’s foreign policy would be ensured through the consistent implementation of its international commitments and the safeguarding of national interests. “Bulgaria must pursue a coherent and active foreign policy that makes it a predictable partner and ensures that its voice is heard clearly in all international debates,” stated Minister Neynski.
Among the key priorities for her team, Minister Neynski highlighted the preparation and organisation of the vote abroad, especially in countries outside the European Union, as well as additional efforts in the final stages of Bulgaria’s path towards accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
In addition, Nadezhda Neynski identified maintaining an active dialogue with partners in the EU and NATO, and ensuring Bulgaria’s active participation in processes related to regional stability and security as key priorities. “A consistent and strong Bulgarian position regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine is, for us, not only a matter of solidarity and humanitarian commitment, but a matter of Bulgarian national interest,” Minister Neynski emphasised, adding that Bulgaria, as a member state of the European Union, will be highly engaged in efforts to achieve a just peace that takes into account Ukraine’s interests, its independence and territorial integrity.
The country’s chief diplomat also stated that Bulgaria’s consistent policy in the Balkans would remain an important focus of the Ministry’s work. “The democratisation of the Western Balkans, including in the context of human rights, remains a serious priority for Bulgaria,” she said, noting that the country will continue to support the European perspective of the states in the region in accordance with the principle of own merit and fulfilment of the criteria for membership.
During her statement to the media, Minister Neynski also introduced the team on which she will rely throughout her mandate.
