Deputy Minister Nikolay Pavlov Takes Part in Ministerial Meeting on the Development of Corridor VIII

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Pavlov participated in a ministerial meeting dedicated to the development of the strategic project Pan-European Corridor VIII held today in Tirana. The forum was hosted by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, Elisa Spiropali, and was attended by the foreign ministers of Italy and the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as by the Ambassador of Romania to Albania.
Participants in the discussion reached a consensus on the key importance of Corridor VIII in strengthening connectivity, regional co-operation and collective security. It was emphasised that, in the current geopolitical context, this project, in addition to its economic significance, plays a decisive role in the successful realisation of NATO and European Union objectives with regard to military mobility. During the meeting, agreement was also reached on enhanced coordination of further infrastructure development along the corridor’s route through the respective countries, the harmonisation of standards and procedures, and the provision of necessary financial resources.
Deputy Minister Pavlov highlighted the priority that Bulgaria has always placed on the construction of Corridor VIII. He noted our country’s systematic efforts to establish Corridor VIII as a strategic priority on the agendas of both the EU and NATO. Pavlov also underscored that Bulgaria remains committed to completing all components of the corridor on its territory and to continuing co-operation with European and regional partners. In this context, he confirmed Bulgaria’s readiness to host the next ministerial meeting on the subject.
During his visit to Albania, Deputy Minister Nikolay Pavlov also took part in the strategic panel of the parallel Economic Forum.
