The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, and the Chairman of the State Committee for City Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Anar Guliyev, signed an intergovernmental agreement today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The agreement concerns the construction and reconstruction of Shusha Park in the city of Veliko Tarnovo. During the ceremony, Snezhana Daneva, Deputy Mayor of Veliko Tarnovo, also signed on behalf of the local authorities.
"The project, funded by the Azerbaijani side with the support of the Bulgarian government and the municipal authorities of Veliko Tarnovo, is an expression of the strategic partnership and active dialogue between the two countries, including at the local level," Minister Georgiev emphasised. He highlighted the importance of cultural and educational cooperation based on a shared traditional respect for the history and spiritual roots of both nations.
The future park will bear the name of the twin Azerbaijani city, Shusha, and will enhance the urban environment and recreational opportunities for both residents and visitors. This initiative continues the partnership between Veliko Tarnovo Municipality and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, whose valuable contribution in 2015–2016 enabled restoration and conservation work at the Trapezitsa stronghold in the old Bulgarian capital.
