22 January 2026 News

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikolay Berievski, met with the UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, Ms Regina De Dominicis, during her working visit to Bulgaria on 22–23 January.

During the meeting, prospects for future cooperation between Bulgaria and UNICEF post-2027 were discussed, as the current Cooperation Programme with UNICEF, approved by the Bulgarian government, is set to expire at that time.

Deputy Minister Berievski underscored the high priority Bulgaria places on the protection and promotion of children's rights. He expressed appreciation for UNICEF's consistent and significant activity within the country. He reaffirmed Bulgaria’s commitment to further upgrading and activating the partnership, assuring that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to support the UNICEF office in Bulgaria.

For her part, Ms Regina De Dominicis highlighted Bulgaria’s important role in protecting and promoting children's rights at both national and international levels. She emphasised UNICEF’s high regard for the country's engagement with the organisation's causes, including through its participation in the Group of Friends of Children and the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as its membership on the UNICEF Executive Board for the 2023–2025 period. The Regional Director expressed gratitude for the excellent cooperation and confidence that the partnership will continue to develop and deepen.
