Bulgaria Supports the Implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Plan for Gaza
16 January 2026 News
Bulgaria welcomes the announcement of the start of the second phase of the Comprehensive Plan to End the Conflict in Gaza, proposed by President Donald Trump and endorsed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803. The establishment of the Peace Council and the Executive Council, as well as the appointment of a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, composed of Palestinian technocrats, represent important steps towards the stabilisation and reconstruction of the region.
We underscore the importance of the full implementation of all elements of the Plan, including the disarmament of Hamas, the provision of humanitarian assistance to all those in need, and the reconstruction of Gaza. The former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Nikolay Mladenov, who is assuming the important role of High Representative of the Peace Council for Gaza and member of the Executive Council, is a diplomat with extensive experience in the Middle East. In his capacity as United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, he has earned the confidence of all parties to the conflict, as well as of the international mediators.
We support the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan and express our readiness to consider a possible national contribution.
Bulgaria will continue to support efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and security in the Middle East and stands ready to discuss a constructive role for the country within the framework of the new initiative.
