Minister Georg Georgiev Participates in the IV Ministerial Forum for Cooperation with the Indo – Pacific Region

21 November 2025 News

Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev represented Bulgaria at the IV Ministerial Forum for Cooperation with the Indo-Pacific Region, held today in Brussels. The forum provides a platform for discussing shared challenges and is a clear sign of the unity and commitment of the European Union to one of the most dynamically developing regions in the world. The Indo-Pacific region is of key importance owing to its economic and demographic potential, while at the same time facing climate and geopolitical challenges, rising defence spending and flashpoints such as the South China Sea and the Korean Peninsula.

Bulgaria’s chief diplomat took part in the discussion dedicated to security priorities in the context of current geopolitical challenges. “To ensure stability in our two regions and to address the challenges of today’s complex security environment, we need a joint approach between the EU and the Indo – Pacific region,” Minister Georgiev stressed. He placed particular emphasis on the importance of cybersecurity in an era of growing dependence on digital platforms and the associated risks. Minister Georgiev outlined several key areas with potential for closer cooperation and joint action – maritime security, the fight against hybrid threats, space technologies, defence and related innovations.

Around 70 high-level representatives took part in the forum, including officials from EU Member States, countries from the Indo – Pacific region – from the eastern coast of Africa to the Pacific island states – as well as representatives of European institutions and international organisations.
