The Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev took part in the Ministerial Meeting on Interregional Security and Connectivity of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the EU Member States and the countries of the Eastern Partnership, the Black Sea Region and Central Asia, which took place on 20 October 2025 in Luxembourg.
In the first plenary session, the ministers discussed the EU’s new Strategic Approach to the Black Sea, which reflects the region's importance for Europe's security, stability and prosperity.
“Security, stability and connectivity in the Black Sea region are in the interest not only of Bulgaria and the coastal Black Sea countries, but to the full extent of the entire European Union,” our top diplomat stated.
Minister Georgiev also said that Bulgaria welcomes and intends to participate actively in the establishment of a Centre for Maritime Security in the Black Sea, as one of the main goals set out in the new Strategic Approach. “We express our readiness to host the efforts leading to its rapid establishment and are ready to continue our constructive interaction with both the European External Action Service and the European Commission, as well as with Romania, as our main partner in this regard,” he added.
In the second part, the Connectivity Programme was discussed, which aims to unleash the potential of the Black Sea region as a bridge between Europe and Central Asia through transport, energy and digital connections, including the Western Balkans.
“Bulgaria supports the development of sustainable ties between the EU, the Eastern Partnership countries, Turkey and the countries of Central Asia, as well as the expansion of infrastructure and transport corridors that are important for Ukraine’s recovery,” Minister Georgiev concluded.
