The Republic of Bulgaria welcomes the decision of the 222nd session of the Executive Board of UNESCO to nominate Prof. Khaled El-Enany from Egypt as Director-General of UNESCO.
Prof. El-Enany is an internationally renowned scholar and has held numerous positions of responsibility, including Director of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo, Minister of Antiquities and Tourism of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and UN Special Ambassador for Cultural Tourism.
In April 2025, the Republic of Bulgaria officially declared its support for the candidacy of Prof. El-Enany as Director-General of UNESCO, for the period 2025-2029. The Republic of Bulgaria will reaffirm its support during the upcoming UNESCO General Conference, which is to approve the nomination of Prof. El-Enany.
