Visa-Free Travel for Bulgarian Citizens on Short-Term Visits to the Republic of South Africa
16 October 2025 News
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that, as of 7 October 2025, holders of ordinary Bulgarian passports may enter and stay in the Republic of South Africa without a visa for a period of up to 90 days for short-term visits.
The visa-free regime does not apply to travel for purposes such as study, employment, business management or registration, medical treatment, or other activities specified in Articles 13–24 of the Immigration Act of the Republic of South Africa.
This decision reflects the high level of bilateral relations between Bulgaria and the Republic of South Africa and will contribute to facilitating people-to-people contacts, tourism, and business exchanges.
Bulgarian citizens may now travel visa-free for short-term stays to more than 170 countries worldwide.
