The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria took part in the prestigious Munich Leaders Meeting (MLM), held in the city of AlUla, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Among the main topics of the forum were issues of regional and global security, a sustainable energy future, and the prospects for deepened economic partnership between Europe and the countries of the Middle East.
The event brought together around 70 distinguished representatives of governments, international organisations, academic institutions and leading figures from the private sector. The discussions were chaired by Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger, Chairman of the Council of the Munich Security Conference Foundation, and were held under the Chatham House Rule, which allowed for an open and in-depth exchange of views on key international issues.
Within the framework of the forum, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister took part in a specialised panel dedicated to the role of the Middle East in the transforming global energy architecture.
In his address, he highlighted Bulgaria’s strategic location and its role in the diversification of Europe’s energy sources. The Minister emphasised the country’s potential as a sustainable energy corridor and a reliable partner in ensuring long-term energy stability in the region.
“Bulgaria is committed to the vision of a connected, predictable and sustainable energy environment. As an EU Member State and a crossroads between Europe, the Middle East and the Black Sea region, we offer both developed infrastructure and a stable institutional framework for partnership and investment,” underlined the Minister.
During the forum, a series of bilateral meetings were also held with representatives of key Middle Eastern countries. These meetings focused on expanding economic cooperation, promoting investment in strategic sectors and strengthening Bulgaria’s position as a competitive and predictable destination for long-term partnership – particularly in the fields of energy, innovation, high technologies and logistics.
The Munich Leaders Meeting is an exclusive format held under the auspices of the Munich Security Conference. The event aims to provide a platform for strategic dialogue between Europe, the United States and the countries of the Middle East in the context of growing geopolitical uncertainty and global transformation. Previous editions of the meeting have taken place in Washington (2025), Rio de Janeiro (2024), Nairobi and Tokyo (2023).
