Minister Georg Georgiev Meets in New York with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar
25 September 2025 NewsForeign Minister Georg Georgiev held a meeting with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, H.E. Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, on the margins of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
During the talks, Minister Georgiev underlined that Bulgaria wishes to open up new opportunities to enrich its cooperation with Qatar across all areas of mutual interest. Among the priority sectors he highlighted were energy, the defence industry, the economy, information and communication technologies, education, agriculture, infrastructure, culture and tourism.
Marking the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Minister Georgiev expressed confidence that this jubilee provides an important opportunity to strengthen bilateral political dialogue and deepen the partnership.
The Bulgarian top diplomat expressed gratitude for the active engagement of the Qatari side, and in particular of the Emir of Qatar, in connection with the release of the crew of the ship “Galaxy Leader”, which included two Bulgarian citizens, as well as with regard to the two Bulgarian hostages held by Hamas
Minister Georgiev also highly valued Qatar’s role as a key mediator and supporter of diplomatic initiatives in the Middle East, emphasising the importance of the country’s continued efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
