The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georg Georgiev, participated in a joint statement of the Foreign Ministers of EU Member States and NATO Member States, held in New York, in response to the serious violation of Estonia’s airspace by the Russian Federation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria expresses its deep concern regarding the incident of 19 September 2025, when three armed Russian MiG-31 fighter aircraft intruded deep into the airspace of Estonia – an EU and NATO Member State. This was the fourth such violation since the beginning of the year and represents a serious threat to regional and international security.
During the joint media statement, Minister Georgiev, together with representatives of partner states, strongly condemned this provocation and supported the convening of an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council at Estonia’s request. Bulgaria urges the Russian Federation to cease immediately its provocations against its neighbours and its aggression against Ukraine, and to adhere strictly to international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
