Farewell Meeting Between Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Bulgaria, H.E. Mr Joël Meyer

On 31 July 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Georg Georgiev, held a farewell meeting with H.E. Mr Joël Meyer, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Republic of Bulgaria.

Minister Georgiev noted the excellent relations between Bulgaria and France, both bilaterally and within the frameworks of the European Union, NATO, and other international organisations. He highlighted the personal contribution of Ambassador Meyer to the deepening of cooperation between the two countries across all areas of mutual interest, including defence, energy, economy, culture, and education.

The Minister expressed gratitude for France’s support in advancing Bulgaria’s foreign policy priorities, among which are the country’s accession to the Schengen Area, the eurozone, and its candidacy for OECD membership.

Ambassador Meyer underscored the strong cooperation with Bulgarian institutions, describing Bulgaria as a strategic partner and an important ally of France in the Eastern European region. He extended particular thanks for Bulgaria’s inclusion in the “Coalition of the Willing” and its support for Ukraine.

The two sides also exchanged views on current European and international issues, including EU enlargement and the enhancement of security in the Black Sea region.
