Farewell Meeting Between Minister Georg Georgiev and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Bulgaria, H.E. Simon van der Burg

On 29 July 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, held a farewell meeting with H.E. Simon van der Burg, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Bulgaria.
Minister Georgiev expressed appreciation for the Ambassador’s efforts in fostering bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including the promotion of investment flows from the Netherlands, which has been a leading investor in Bulgaria for many years.
During the discussion, both sides expressed satisfaction with the active cooperation between the two countries within the European Union, NATO, and other international organisations. Particular emphasis was placed on the Netherlands’ contribution to Bulgaria’s efforts to improve border control and the protection of the EU’s external borders, as well as the constructive dialogue in the areas of justice, police cooperation, and the fight against organised crime. The fruitful exchange in the fields of education and research and development was also highlighted.
The two officials exchanged views on opportunities to further deepen bilateral cooperation, as well as on current issues on the European agenda, including support for Ukraine, strengthening security, stability and resilience in the Black Sea region, and EU enlargement.
Ambassador van der Burg expressed his gratitude for the excellent cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as with the Diplomatic Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
