On 5 June 2025, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Nikolay Pavlov, received copies of the letters of credence of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Chile to the Republic of Bulgaria (with residence in Bucharest), H.E. Mr Julio Bravo.
The longstanding relations of traditional friendship and cooperation between Bulgaria and Chile, spanning a 90-year history, were highly praised. Opportunities for strengthening the Bulgarian-Chilean partnership were discussed, with particular emphasis on the upcoming political consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, scheduled to take place in Sofia in July 2025. Positive expectations were expressed that these consultations would contribute to outlining concrete directions for enhancing bilateral ties through the intensification of political dialogue, the promotion of trade and economic cooperation, and the deepening of interaction in other areas of mutual interest.
The excellent prospects for the development of the privileged partnership between the European Union and Chile were highlighted, particularly in light of the signing of the EU–Chile Advanced Framework Agreement in December 2023.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the fruitful cooperation within international organisations and the mutual support extended for candidacies. The Chilean side reaffirmed its readiness to support Bulgaria on its path towards accession to the OECD, including through the sharing of experience and expertise.
Deputy Minister Pavlov reaffirmed Bulgaria’s gratitude for Chile’s valuable support for the Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions.
