23 May 2025 News

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr Georg Georgiev, and the Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr Mostafa Madbouly, met during the Bulgarian top diplomat's two-day visit to the African country.

Georg Georgiev is on an official visit to Cairo, having arrived at the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Badr Abdelatty. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, which are rooted in a long-standing partnership, shared interests, and a tradition of mutual respect between the two nations.

Bulgaria’s top diplomat highlighted Egypt's strategic importance as Bulgaria's largest trading partner in the Middle East and Africa, as well as a leading role in processes concerning regional security and stability. In this context, both sides reaffirmed their desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in key areas such as the economy, energy, investment, security and regional dialogue, tourism, and high technologies.

Georg Georgiev also discussed concrete steps to deepen economic collaboration, including the holding of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation in the second half of 2025 and the establishment of a Bulgarian-Egyptian Business Council.

A key highlight of the discussion was the upcoming 100th anniversary in 2026 of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries – an occasion regarded as an opportunity for further strengthening political dialogue and bilateral exchange.
