The Top Diplomats of Bulgaria and Egypt Discuss the Establishment of a Joint Economic Council

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr Georg Georgiev, and his counterpart, Mr Badr Abdelatty, held a fruitful meeting during the Bulgarian top diplomat's two-day visit to the African country.
Ministers Georgiev and Abdelatty discussed opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation and deepening the partnership in areas of mutual interest, including energy, the food and beverage industry, innovation, and tourism.
The top diplomats of Bulgaria and Egypt considered enhancing the existing Joint Economic Commission by establishing a focused business council. This council would enable direct communication between representatives of the business and corporate sectors, facilitating appropriate forms of collaboration, some of which are already in place.
In 2024, bilateral trade reached a record high of $1.81 billion, marking a 41% increase compared to the previous year. This positions Bulgaria as Egypt's eight most significant trading partner among EU Member States. Bulgaria also emerged as one of Egypt’s leading wheat exporters, with export volumes rising by 60% year-on-year.
Ministers Georgiev and Abdelatty exchanged views on current regional and global issues. Minister Georgiev underscored Egypt's key role in ensuring stability in the Middle East and Africa, as well as Bulgaria's readiness to support the development of strategic relations between Egypt and the European Union.
