Ivan Kondov participates in the G20 Ministerial Meeting

26 September 2024 News

Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov took part in the G20 ministerial meeting in the framework of the General Debate of the 79th session of the UNGA, which was organised by the current Brazilian presidency of the format. The objectives that the organizers had set for the meeting were to discuss ways to strengthen the multilateral system to achieve peace, stability and development in the world, as well as to strengthen commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, the promotion of Agenda 2030, international law and diplomacy.

In his speech before the forum the Bulgarian foreign minister stressed that maintaining the rules on which the international order depends and strengthening their legitimacy is one of the key tasks that multilateralism faces and forums like the G20 have an important contribution in this respect. He recalled that just a few days ago, member states adopted the Pact for the Future, a founding document that commits governments to rejuvenate and reform the multilateral system. Kondov expressed the hope that the mechanism of the institutionalised summit, which served us so well in the 1970s and which is at the heart of the G20's work today, would help advance this reform agenda.

The Bulgarian foreign minister also expressed his gratitude to the Brazilian presidency for opening to all member states this first ever ministerial meeting of the G20, which is being held at the UN headquarters.
