On 12 September 2024, the National Coordinator for Combating antisemitism and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nevyana Miteva convened a meeting of the Contact Group for Combating antisemitism, in accordance with Decision No 874 of the Council of Ministers of 2022.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of the National Action Plan to Combat antisemitism (2023-2027), exchanged views on the results achieved in the first year of implementation of the plan and identified follow-up actions. Within the agenda of the Contact Group, information was provided on the participation of the Republic of Bulgaria in the international forums held since the beginning of the year on issues related to counteracting anti-Semitism and the resulting commitments, including the meeting of the Working Group on the Implementation of the EU Strategy to Combat Anti-Semitism and Promote Jewish Life (Brussels, 22-23 January 2024), the OSCE High-Level International Conference on Combating antisemitism (Malta, 8-9 April 2024), the Plenary Session of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (Glasgow, 26-27 June 2024) and the International Meeting of Special Envoys and Coordinators to Combat antisemitism (Buenos Aires, 16-18 July 2024).
The growing manifestations of antisemitism worldwide following the Hamas terrorist attacks on the State of Israel on 7 October 2023 were among the highlights of the issues discussed. All participants agreed on the key importance of prevention to curb and counteract antisemitic manifestations. The representatives of the state structures and NGOs jointly confirmed their will and determination to actively fight discrimination, intolerance and hatred, including antisemitism, which have no place in Bulgarian society.
