On 12 September 2024, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms Elena Shekerletova, received copies of the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Sofia, H. E. Mr Nathanial Copsey.
The two sides highly assessed the state of our bilateral relations and committed to deepening and building on our strategic partnership in all areas of mutual interest, including in the framework of multilateral formats. Special attention was paid to the role of the large Bulgarian community in the United Kingdom as a natural bridge between the two countries, as well as to the educational, scientific and technological exchange. The importance of measures to achieve economic growth, cooperation in the field of security, as well as the new outlook for UK-EU relations were also discussed.
Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova expressed her gratitude to the British side for the consistent support for Bulgaria's foreign policy priorities, including our accession to the OECD, and the political dialogue maintained at all levels.
During the discussion were also discussed issues related to the organization of the upcoming early parliamentary elections in Bulgaria and the provision of the opportunity for Bulgarian citizens to exercise their right to vote on the territory of the United Kingdom.
