The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ivan Kondov, met today with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Bulgaria, Mrs. Olesya Ilashchuk, and the discussion focused on Bulgaria's support for Ukraine in the context of the ongoing Russian aggression.
‘I look forward to meeting in person Ukraine’s newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sibiga in the margins of the General Debate of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York’, said Minister Kondov. ‘Our support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity is unwavering, consistent and will continue to be so for as long as necessary’, he added.
In the course of the talks a wide range of topics were touched upon, including our country’s participation in the International Crimean Platform, the G7+ meeting on providing energy support to Ukraine, the future Ukraine Peace Summit, the preparation of the ‘Victory Plan’ that Ukrainian President Zelensky will present during his upcoming visit to the US, the country's European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as the coordination of Bulgarian assistance to Ukraine.
The Bulgarian Foreign Minister underlined that our country supports the ‘Peace Formula’ initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and is actively working to implement the points on which a real contribution has been declared by the ministries involved. Our country will also contribute with its experience to the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine.
Bulgaria is also strongly engaged in the processes of post-war reconstruction and modernisation of Ukraine. In this regard, close cooperation in the energy sector was also highlighted, especially in the context of preparations for the upcoming winter season. The reconstruction activities in the areas inhabited by the historical Bulgarian diaspora in Ukraine, primarily in the Odessa region, are also essential for the overall reconstruction of the country.
