Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Turkey at the level of deputy ministers

Political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye were held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, led by the Deputy Ministers Ms Elena Shekerletova and Mr Mehmet Kemal Bozay.

The two delegations discussed a wide range of bilateral issues and reviewed bilateral relations and the opportunities and areas for developing and deepening bilateral dialogue in the light of the visits exchanged in recent months.

Deputy Minister Shekerletova and Deputy Minister Bozay exchanged views and comments on a wide range of issues, including the current challenges facing the Southeast European region and the changed geopolitical dynamics, security in the Black Sea, migration, energy, transport and connectivity, climate change, regional cooperation, culture and others. The European path of the Republic of Türkiye was also a topic of the consultations.

Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova and her Turkish counterpart agreed that the excellent level of bilateral relations on all issues of mutual interest needed to be maintained at the current height and intensity. They underlined the importance of cooperation between the two countries on important issues such as the fight against illegal migration, defence, energy and transport connectivity, as well as the opportunities to develop the existing potential for cooperation in the fields of economy and trade. On the Bulgarian side, support for the European perspective of the Republic of Turkey was confirmed.
