Mariya Gabriel: France is an important partner and strategic ally of Bulgaria

15 February 2024 News

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel paid a working visit to Paris and held a meeting with the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Stéphane Séjourné.

France is a partner and strategic ally of Bulgaria, with whom they share common priorities on the international agenda. This year will mark 145 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Important topics were the focus of the meeting: the new roadmap between Bulgaria and France, which will update the 2008 strategic partnership agreement, the Three Seas Initiative, Bulgaria’s accession to the euro area and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

‘I thank France for its support for Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen. We also appreciate the support for our accession to the euro area and the OECD. I believe that in 2024 we will adopt the new roadmap and raise the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and France to a higher level.’

Other topics of discussion were support for Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.
