09 April 2013 News

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Sirakov, today presented the Bulgarian diplomatic service’s sign of honour, the Golden Laurel Branch, to the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, HE Saad Mohammed Rida Mohammed Ali. The award was conferred in recognition of his contributions and achievements in developing and strengthening bilateral relations and on the occasion of his final departure from Bulgaria.

“Iraq is an important strategic and major economic partner for Bulgaria in the region,” Ivan Sirakov said. “In recent years, trade between our countries has increased substantially. We appreciate the efforts that you have made to strengthen the co-operation between Bulgaria and Iraq and we always have wished to have a friend of Bulgaria such as you,” the Permanent Secretary said.

“Bulgaria remains forever in my heart,” Ambassador Saad Ali said. He emphasised that the Iraqi government is paying great attention to the development of relations with Bulgaria, and expressed his confidence that his successor in office would continue to work in the same spirit.
