02 April 2013 News

“Bulgaria and the United Kingdom can co-operate closely in the implementation of the Nabucco project, which is of key significance to Bulgaria’s energy security,” Bulgaria’s Prime Minister said. The development of potential gas fields in the Bulgarian Black Sea and co-operation in this field, as well as in other economic sectors, were also among topics discussed at the meeting. “The Bulgarian government is making a concerted effort to improve the competitiveness and transparency of the energy sector,” Marin Raykov said.

UK Ambassador Jonathan Allen emphasised that the position of his government, as announced last week by Prime Minister David Cameron, is that there will be no discrimination against Bulgarian citizens when labour market restrictions are lifted. The Ambassador pointed out that Bulgarians resident in the UK had contributed to the economic development of the country. Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Marin Raykov said that Bulgarian citizens do not present a migration threat and expressed gratitude for the position expressed to him by Foreign Secretary William Hague in a letter last week.
