29 March 2013 News

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Marin Raykov held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lebanon, Micheline Abi Samra, on the occasion of her final departure from Bulgaria.

“Bulgaria and Lebanon have traditionally good relations, which we should develop further in the interests of our two peoples. In Bulgaria, there are many Lebanese people, who make a significant contribution to Bulgarian society and are a natural link between the two countries,” Prime Minister Raykov said.

He emphasised that the Bulgarian authorities were continuing their investigation into the bombing in Bourgas, and that Bulgaria relies on the support and co-operation of Lebanon in this process to reveal the perpetrators of the terrorist attack, which killed five Israelis and a Bulgaria.

“We will provide our partners and allies with all the evidence uncovered in the investigation, but will not initiate the procedure to include certain groups or individuals in the banned list of the European Union,” the Bulgarian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said.

Ambassador Micheline Abi Samra expressed gratitude for the support and very good co-operation that she had received during her term of office in Bulgaria. "The Lebanese authorities are willing to co-operate fully with their Bulgarian counterparts in the investigation into the terrorist attack in Bourgas," the Ambassador said.

“Bulgaria has always supported Lebanon in difficult times and it has always encouraged the Lebanese authorities in their efforts to maintain stability and sovereignty. For us and our partners and allies in the EU and NATO, the stability of Lebanon is the key to the whole region, especially in the context of the conflict in Syria,” Marin Raykov said.
