Nickolay Mladenov received a letter from the UK's Europe Minister

17 February 2013 News

UKMinister for European Affairs David Lidington has written to Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister informing him of the steps taken by British authorities in regard to the issuing of work permits to Bulgarian and Romanian students. The UK Border Agency, which is responsible for the issuing of work permits, had by January 7 2013 processed about 80 per cent of the applications submitted before June 30 2012. The remaining 20 per cent will be considered a priority while the Border Agency currently is handling the applications received in the past six months. The relevant authorities have an e-mail address to which students can submit requests for information about applications and other information: [email protected]. Minister Lidington gave an assurance that the UK Border Agency is committed to ensuring a consistent level of service for Bulgarian and Romanian students while avoiding delays.

Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister wrote to Minister Lidington on January 8 urging UK authorities to take steps to normalise the process of issuing work permits to Bulgarian and Romanian students.
