Bulgaria condemns the shelling against South Korea

After the artillery attack by North Korea on the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong, the Spokesperson of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry made the following statement:

"Bulgaria condems the unprecedented artillery fire by the armed forces of North Korea on the territory of South Korea. We express our concern which this serious incident poses to stability on the Korean Peninsula and more broadly to international peace and security.  

Bulgaria calls on the leadership of the DPRK to abstain from further provocatons and to abide by the ceasefire agreements.
   
We expect boths sides to show restraint and through responsible behavior avoid further escalations in tensions."

Minister Mladenov spoke on the phone with the ambassador fo the Republic of Korea to Sofia to express his condolences to the families of bereaved, as well as to condemn the incident.
