The Bulgarian government supports NABUCCO

23 November 2010 News

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov spoke in Vienna with Reinhard Mitschek, the Managing-Director of the international company for the realization of the Nabucco pipeline. They discussed the progress made on the project and the next steps in this direction.

,,I fully support Nabucco, because it is a priority project for Bulgaria from the standpoint of achieving diversification of the gas supplies and reducing the country’s energy dependency. As an essential element for Southern corridor and approved by the European Commission as a priority European project, Nabucco is key to security of gas supplies for the entire continent’’, said Nikolay Mladenov.

Reinhard Mitschek noted that the meeting is another sign of the Bulgarian government’s support for the Nabucco pipeline, which will have an important contribution to Bulgaria’s energy security. He also expressed his gratitude for the support that Mr. Mladenov has offered and for the great cooperation with the Bulgarian authorities, which ensures successful and timely implementation of the project.

Bulgaria was the first country to contract the project documents with the international company for Nabucco. The Intergovernmental Agreement between the participating countries was signed in July 2009, and was ratified by the National Assembly in February 2010.
