The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev confirmed the full support of our country for the long-time local employee of our embassy in Kabul Amruddin Hakshenas and his family, who were recently evacuated from Afghanistan with the help of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"You are safe and you can count on our full support. With joint efforts we will make you feel the best in Bulgaria", Minister Stoev, who received Amruddin Hakshenas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said.

Our Foreign Minister thanked Amruddin Hakshenas for everything he has done for Bulgaria during his 40 years of service to our country. As a result of his efforts, the property of the Bulgarian state in Kabul has been protected during critical moments in the development of Afghanistan in the last 30 years. For this reason, in 2003 he was awarded the highest award of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for foreign citizens the Golden Laurel Branch.

"You were our friend when we needed one. Now we will be by your side. We will do everything possible for you and your children to have a future here", Minister Stoev said, expressing hope that Amruddin Hakshenas and his family will successfully integrate into our society.

Within its competences, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to support Amruddin Hakshenas even after the evacuation. He and his family will be accommodated in a home provided by the Bulgarian Red Cross.

Amruddin Hakshenas thanked Minister Stoev for the efforts and assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in withdrawing them from Afghanistan. For his attention and support in the difficult situation, he expressed gratitude to our ambassadors to Pakistan and Afghanistan - Irena Gancheva and Ivan Kotov, to the Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to NATO Dragomir Zakov, to the directors of the Asia, Australia and Oceania Directorate Natalia Misheva and of "Situation Centre" Anton Markov.

Amruddin Haqshenas was appointed to our embassy in Kabul in 1981. He was the first Afghan citizen to be evacuated by the country in pursuance of a Council of Ministers decision to admit up to 70 Afghan citizens and their families who worked at our embassy or were in official relations with the EU and NATO structures in Afghanistan.
