Ten Bulgarian citizens were repatriated from the Republic of South Africa with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

30 November 2021 News

Ten of our compatriots were repatriated last night from the Republic of South Africa with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They took off on an Romanian evacuation flight with Romanian and other EU citizens.

Our embassies in Pretoria and Bucharest actively assisted in organizing the return of Bulgarian citizens to their homeland. Our compatriots were the second largest group on board of the plane after that of the Romanian citizens. They took off at 3:00 am on November 30, 2021 from Johannesburg International Airport with a flight to Bucharest with a technical landing in Mombasa, Kenya. The Bulgarian Embassy in Bucharest has created the necessary organization for welcoming our compatriots in the Romanian capital and transporting them to Ruse.

According to our embassy in the Republic of South Africa, in connection with the newly discovered strain of COVID-19 "Omicron" the situation is gradually normalizing, as foreign airlines that had stopped flights, are beginning to recover them today.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its gratitude to the Romanian partners for their assistance in the repatriation of Bulgarian citizens.
