The famous diplomat Ivan Stanchov left us

24 November 2021 News

Ivan Stanchov, a prominent Bulgarian diplomat and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria (1994-1995), died in Great Britain at the age of 92.

We will remember him with his patriotism and concern for the fate of Bulgaria, with his professionalism, wide heart and soul. He has been ardently supporting the development of our country since the dawn of democracy. He continued to do charity work through his Karin Dom Foundation to help children with special needs and their families.

Ivan Stanchov comes from a family with a great contribution to the political history of Bulgaria - he is the grandson of the Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Stanchov (1907). His family emigrated in 1943. Stanchov returned to Bulgaria in 1990, after which he was appointed ambassador to Great Britain, the first Bulgarian ambassador to Ireland and later foreign minister. He has won many prestigious international awards.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria expressed its sincerest condolences to the family and relatives of Ivan Stanchov. His death is a great loss for us!
